CHARLES T. KAO, DDS
Our First Smile Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Kao received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from UCLA School of Dentistry in 2000, followed by a residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Boston University. After completing his residency, he became an associate doctor at the Central Coast Pediatric Dental Group in Salinas for three years prior to opening First Smile Pediatric Dentistry. He enjoys working with children and believes that every child deserves good oral health.

Dr. Kao is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, California Dental Association, California Society of Pediatric Dentists, and the Santa Clara County Dental Society.

AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that all children visit a dentist between six and twelve months after the eruption of their first tooth. A pediatric dentist is a specialized dentist dedicated to the oral health of infants and children. With specific training in pediatric issues, they are able to provide exceptional care and individualized attention that your child deserves.

IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR DENTAL VISITS

Routine dental visits and preventive dental care, such as cleanings and fluoride treatment, pave the way for your child's beautiful smile. Regular dental exams uncover problems early, when damages are minimal. X-rays, when appropriate, can be used to determine teeth development and to locate hidden decay. In essence, preventative dental care helps insure that your child's teeth and gums remain healthy. During your visit, our dental team will show you proper teeth cleaning techniques, discuss fluoride requirements and other issues specific to your child's needs.

WHY THEY ARE IMPORTANT

Although primary teeth begin to shed around six years of age, proper care of "baby" teeth is essential. Because each baby tooth serves as the foundation for proper positioning of permanent teeth and gum health, they are important to your growing child's long-term oral health and dental care.
